Review: “bauhaus imaginista at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt,” The Avery Review, 2019, by Yuki Higashino
bauhaus imaginista is an international project that marks the school's centenary, structured around four themes: "corresponding with," "learning from," "moving away," and "still undead." The project opens up a transnational perspective on modernist art and design history through site-specific exhibitions, events, and publications between 2018 and 2020.
For bauhaus imaginista "corresponding with," Luca Lee Frei developed the exhibition display structured around three large hand-painted murals, one for each school presented in the exhibition. A grid system referencing both the architecture and pedagogical notebook paper organized the murals, vitrines, shelving, and wall tables into a dynamic, playful, classroom-like spatial framework.
